Lean Lab 2026: Where Laboratory Transformation Becomes Practice

The conversation in Life Sciences laboratories has shifted. It is no longer about whether to digitise, automate or adopt AI. It is about how to do all of it at the same time, without losing compliance, operational continuity or the people who make it work.

Lean Lab 2026 takes a deliberately practical approach. Rather than exploring what AI might do in theory, the programme focuses on what organisations are already doing with it: managing data more efficiently, supporting operational decisions in real time and integrating tools such as voice recognition within electronic laboratory notebooks into existing workflows. 

The question the day will keep returning to is not whether AI belongs in the laboratory. It clearly does. The question is how to integrate it responsibly, without compromising quality or regulatory compliance and in a way that genuinely supports the people doing the work. 

One of the things that has made Lean Lab a consistent reference point over sixteen years is its focus on what has actually been tried, not just what is theoretically possible.

As part of each edition, Lean Lab presents the results of its annual industry survey, designed to capture how organisations across Life Sciences are approaching laboratory transformation in practice. 

The survey covers digitalisation, sustainability, automation and organisational change, and provides anonymous benchmarking data that helps participants understand where their organisation sits relative to the broader market.
